Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find results for previous years of The Geist Race Across the Reservoir?

Results for all years can be found on our results page here

Will there be a place to stash stuff?

Yes, we will provide gear check on race morning. This will be located in the drive-thru lanes of First Merchants Bank on Olio Rd. We have limited space, so please don't bring everything you own. And note that while the area will be monitored by volunteers, we can not guarantee the security of your items... please use common sense regarding what you check.

Does the race really start at 7:00 AM?

Yes! All three distances (half marathon, 10k, 5k) start promptly at 7:00 AM. Every year, a few people seem to think we start at 7:30 or 8... and are a little disappointed that everybody's already gone. 7:00 AM!

Where do my entry fees go?

The race mission is to improve health and wellness of people in this area, especially children. To this end, the proceeds are filtered back to the schools in the surrounding area, primarily Hamilton Southeastern and Lawrence Township schools and a variety of smaller schools. To date, over $400,000 has been donated to the schools to fund a variety of health and wellness initiatives. We also have 2100+ school age children running from area schools as part of school teams promoting health.

My children are signed up for the Geist 5K Fitness Challenge through a school program - where do we get their shirts and numbers?

Your shirt & bib will be delivered to your child’s school on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the race. Your school coach or mentor will provide more information for you.

Do all races get a medal and a shirt?

Yes! Whether you run the half, 10k, or 5k, you will get a medal and a shirt!

Do I have to come pick up my packet on Friday? Can I get it Saturday morning?

It depends. If you paid the small donation for Saturday pickup during registration, your name will be on a list to pick up on race morning. Everyone else will need to grab it on Friday. We don't do race day pickup for everyone because we're busy ensuring the race experience itself is as awesome as it can be.

I didn't register online - can I show up and register on race morning?

Sorry, no. You can register at the expo on Friday!

Can I run with a stroller? Can I run with my dog?

Sorry, we don't allow strollers and dogs for safety and insurance reasons.

I've heard Geist has fun in store for me post-race - what's that about?

We have an awesome Kid Zone with activities and a pony ride area that is always a big hit. And there's a beer garden for grown-ups. The Ale Emporium Fishers (formerly Caslers) is open for full service later in the morning too if you want to make a meal of it. For those wanting a little more, there's also The VIP Experience.

I signed up for The VIP Experience - where is that at?

Come to the VIP area under the awning at Ale Emporium Fishers!

Where do I catch the parking shuttle?

Ah, you must have run in prior years. We did away with the shuttle several years back. It really is just a short walk to/from the parking areas.

Is there special transportation for folks with disabilities?

No... however, we do allow drop-off in front of Kroger (if coming south on Olio Road) or behind Fifth Third Bank (if you are traveling east on 116th street)

Where is the start/finish line?

When you arrive, you will likely notice that the start/finish is not at the finish festival area in the shopping center. Just walk south on Olio down the hill - you will find it there.

I am part of a school group - do we have a tent somewhere?

Yes, if your group registered as part of the schools program, you do. All these tents are located in the finish festival area (the shopping center lot) near First Merchants Bank and gear check.

Are there medical personnel available if I need help?

Yes - the med tent is located on Olio, just north of the start/finish. It is between the start/finish and the finish festival area.

Is there a lost-and-found anywhere?

Yes, check at the Information Tent located in the finish festival area near First Merchants Bank

Is this course flat?

No. It isn't super hilly, but it does have a few long, rolling hills. See our course maps page for more information.

Where can I check results or pick up awards?

Both will be available at the timing tent in the finish festival area at First Merchants Bank.

What about lost children?

Contact the nearest police officer or race official and he or she will immediately radio it in to the command post and collect and convey vital information. An all-points bulletin will be issued to all race officials and law officers.

I have some compliments or complaints about the race - who do I tell?

We want to know both! You will be contacted post-race and asked to complete a survey about your experience. We look forward to hearing from you to help us shape next year’s race.

What happens if it rains?

You will get wet :-). Geist, like practically all running events, will be held rain or shine! Runners and walkers are tough. The exception? Lightning. Check our Weather Policy on our race info page for more information.

I can't run! Can I give my entry to someone else? Can I defer to next year?

We're sorry you won't be able to make it. We have a strict no-transfer policy. Please don't give your number to someone else. This is a no no. You MAY defer your entry to next year. Go to the registration page, follow the link to our registration provider, and then choose the "DEFER" option at the end. There is a small fee to defer.

I want to change the distance I registered for... what do I do?

We can help you at the expo! Visit our registration page for more details. IMPORTANT! - Do not, we repeat DO NOT, change distances on race morning! This messes up our timing team, delays results, and has several unintended effects. If you think you will want to change, you need to do that ahead of time.

Tell me the basics!

Ah, you probably got here from the FAQ button at our registration partner. This site will tell you everything you need to know about the who/what/where/when/how. Start with The Basics page.

What is the difference between the 5K and the 5K Fitness Challenge?

The Geist 5K Fitness Challenge is for children in local schools that have registered with our School Director. To learn more about the 5K Fitness Challenge, visit the Schools page. If you are an adult runner who wants to complete our 5K, please register for the regular 5K event!
