    Mission

The Geist Half Marathon Inc. is an Indiana non-profit corporation organized to inspire health and wellness in the children surrounding Geist Reservoir in Indianapolis, Indiana. Working closely with the Lawrence Township School Foundation and Hamilton Southeastern School Foundation, the Geist Half Marathon will raise funds to benefit a “My Community Gets Healthy” program which is backed by IN Shape Indiana, Indiana State Department of Health, Indiana Association of Public Education Foundations, Learning Well, and several Indianapolis area hospitals.

In 2008, students in the Lawrence Township Schools will be encouraged to participate in a year-long fitness program which will provide coaches, running shoes, pedometers, and most importantly support to kids of all grades. Each month, students in the program will be tested in their gym class or after school to check their progress monitoring their weight, height, and endurance. The culminating event for these students will be running either the Geist Half Marathon or the Geist 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 16th, 2009.
